India and South Korea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to link their electronic payment systems, allowing citizens of both countries to use their local QR code systems when visiting each other’s countries. South Korean President Lee Jae Myung announced the development during a joint statement with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a measure that will make mutual visits all the more convenient. The linkage extends India’s UPI-based digital payments infrastructure to South Korea, enabling Indian travellers to pay using UPI QR codes in South Korea and Korean visitors to use their local payment system in India.
