A new COVID-19 variant responsible for a recent surge in cases across China has now been detected in the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed. However, the agency emphasized that fewer than 20 cases have been identified in the U.S. so far. In a statement to The Epoch Times on May 25, a CDC spokesperson said the agency is aware of the NB.1.8.1 variant spreading in China and is maintaining close coordination with international health partners.
