Life Insurance Corporation of India’s portfolio moves are once again in focus. The insurance giant trimmed its holdings in several listed companies during the latest quarter, offering investors a closer look at how the country’s largest domestic institutional investor is repositioning its bets amid volatile markets and shifting sector trends.
State Bank of India
LIC reduced its holding in State Bank of India from 84.51 crore shares in December 2025 to 80.29 crore shares in March 2026, marking a net sell value of Rs 4,626 crore. SBI shares declined 0.29% during the period.
ICICI Bank
LIC cut its stake in ICICI Bank from 34.43 crore shares to 31.86 crore shares during the quarter. The insurer’s net sell value stood at Rs 3,449 crore, while the stock fell 10.20%.
Coal India
Coal India saw LIC holdings decline from 71.34 crore shares in December to 68.07 crore shares in March. The net sell value was Rs 1,431 crore even as the stock gained 12.89%.
Piramal Finance
LIC’s holding in Piramal Finance dropped from 1.01 crore shares in December 2025 to less than 1% ownership by March 2026. The stock rose 11.66% during the quarter.
Grasim Industries
LIC reduced its holding in Grasim Industries from 4.98 crore shares to 4.51 crore shares in the March quarter. The insurer’s net sell value stood at Rs 1,291 crore, while the stock declined 9.59%.
HDFC Bank
LIC trimmed its stake in HDFC Bank from 63.57 crore shares to 62.24 crore shares. The net sell value during the quarter was Rs 1,145 crore, while the stock slipped 26.20%.
Britannia Industries
LIC’s holding in Britannia Industries fell from 1.25 crore shares in December to 1.07 crore shares in March. The insurer sold shares worth Rs 1,030 crore, while the stock declined 10.08%.
Larsen & Toubro
LIC cut its stake in Larsen & Toubro from 17.27 crore shares to 17.03 crore shares during the quarter. The net sell value stood at Rs 911 crore, while the stock fell 14.19%.
Steel Authority of India
LIC reduced its holding in Steel Authority of India from 37.93 crore shares to 32.41 crore shares in Q4FY26. The insurer’s net sell value was Rs 849 crore, while the stock gained 3.01%.
Tata Steel
LIC’s stake in Tata Steel declined from 90 crore shares in December 2025 to 86.43 crore shares in March 2026. The insurer sold shares worth Rs 715 crore during the quarter, while the stock rose 6.54%.
