Benchmark Indian equity indices ended largely unchanged on Monday, August 10, as rising crude oil prices and continued uncertainty over developments in the Middle East offset optimism from weaker-than-expected US jobs data, which strengthened expectations of a less restrictive Federal Reserve policy stance.

The Nifty50 ended the session up 13.15 points, or 0.05%, at 24,583.80, while the BSE Sensex settled at 78,542.44, gaining 43.27 points, or 0.06%.

Broader markets ended mixed. The Nifty Midcap100 index gained 0.62%, while the Nifty Smallcap100 index declined 0.27%.

The mixed sentiment was also reflected across sectoral indices. The Nifty Realty index outperformed, rising 1.35%. Nifty IT, Media, Private Bank and Financial Services indices also ended higher. In contrast, Bank Nifty, Pharma, Auto, FMCG and PSU Bank indices closed in the red.

Despite the weakness, the Nifty50 traded in a narrow range of 24,500–24,620 throughout the session, indicating a lack of decisive directional momentum.

According to Ponmudi R, CEO, Enrich Money, the 24,500 support level remained intact, limiting the downside and keeping the broader recovery structure stable.

“From a technical perspective, the 24,600–24,700 zone continues to act as the immediate resistance area. A sustained breakout above 24,700 could strengthen buying momentum and open the way towards the 24,800 level,” said Ponmudi.

On the downside, 24,500 remains the immediate and crucial support level. Holding above this level will be important to prevent renewed weakness.

A decisive break below 24,500, he believes, could increase selling pressure and expose the index to the 24,400–24,300 region. Momentum indicators remain constructive but are showing signs of moderation.

The RSI is hovering around 60, remaining comfortably above the neutral 50 mark but largely flat, indicating that momentum remains positive without showing significant acceleration.

"The MACD continues to remain above its signal line, while the positive histogram indicates that the broader momentum remains supportive,” said Ponmudi.
