On the BSE, CY25 saw the emergence of an exclusive “premium club” of nearly 60 high-priced stocks, each traded above Rs 5,000 and with market capitalisations above Rs 5,000 crore, that only a few investors could afford to enter. Now, just over six months into CY26, their performance is mixed. Even though the broader market has been weak, with the Sensex down about 9% due to global uncertainty and geopolitical tensions, nearly half of these stocks are still in positive territory. More notably, about 14 names have surged over 20%, standing out as strong outperformers in an otherwise weak market environment. We highlight the top 10 gainers within this high-priced universe, where returns have ranged from 25% to 85%. Alongside performance trends, we also examine institutional positioning, highlighting significant holdings by FIIs and mutual funds across these premium stocks. Meanwhile, MRF continues to hold its crown as the most expensive stock on the BSE, currently trading near Rs 1,31,996. However, CY26 has been a softer phase for it as well, with the stock declining about 14% from its previous level of Rs 1,52,762.(Data Source: ACE Equity)
