This points to rising confidence among individual investors. Retail investors include resident individuals holding nominal share capital of up to Rs 2 lakh.However, the increase in retail ownership has not resulted in broad-based gains across the BSE 500 universe. Stock performance has remained largely muted so far in CY26, with only about 23 companies posting positive returns. Still, despite the wider market weakness, a select group of stocks has stood out. Sai Life Sciences has surged 74% so far in CY26, with the share price rising from Rs 907 to Rs 1,574. Retail ownership increased to 5.10% in June 2026, compared with 4.12% in March 2026 and 3.43% in December 2025.
