Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov said that while recent statements by the US, Iran and Israel about a de-escalation were ‘encouraging’, he did ‘not want to mistake wishful thinking for fact.’ After his talks with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat, Lavrov reiterated that Moscow “strongly condemned the U.S. missile and bomb strikes” on Iran’s nuclear programme facilities, adding that Israel’s initial attack was ‘unprovoked.’ “It has become commonplace to talk about the possibility of the start of World War III. This is especially sad in a situation where revanchist, aggressive, militant sentiments are reviving to the full extent in Europe once again. As if two world wars, not to mention less significant conflicts in previous centuries, were not enough for the leaders of the current European Union,” he added. Watch for more details.
