Shamla Hamza initially pursued a career as a lyricist, but unexpectedly transitioned to acting at an audition for the film 1001 Nunakal. Her performance led her to be cast in Feminichi Fathima, in which she portrays a woman who perseveres in a quiet way against patriarchal and religious oppression to make true a simple wish.
