India’s benchmark stock market indices Sensex and Nifty pared early gains and settled in red on Thursday, February 06, 2025. The 30 companies BSE index closed 213 points lower at 78,058. While, the broader gauge dipped 93 points and settled at 23,603 levels. Earlier, markets reacted to Delhi Election's Exit Polls predictions and had opened with a gap up at the opening bell. At least six Exit Polls have predicted a BJP victory, while two said the incumbent AAP would retain power. This projection, if accurate, would mark BJP’s return to power in Delhi after a drought of 27 long years. RBI MPC meet underway The Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Meeting (MPC) is underway. The apex bank is expected to initiate the first repo rate cut in five years on Friday. Among the Sensex pack, stocks like Bharti Airtel, Titan, NTPC, SBI, Tata Steel, ITC, Power Grid, MM, Tata Motors, Ultra Cement, Zomato and HUL were the major draggers. Nifty Consumer Durables, Realty close with highest loss Among the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) thematic indices, Nifty Consumer Durables and Nifty Realty fell the most Other Asian peers trade in positive terrain Global benchmark Brent crude oil prices were also buoyant and were quoted at $74.94 per barrel at the time of writing this article. FIIs again sold equities According to the NSE data, on February 05, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) sold shares worth ₹ 1,682.83 crore. While, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) bought shares worth ₹996.28 crore. As of February 05, the overseas investors' selling had stood at ₹80,627 crore, in the current calendar year.
