In a surprising move, the online food delivery platform, Zomato, has moved a proposal to change company's name from ‘Zomato Limited’ to ‘Eternal Limited.’ The company informed about the development in an exchange filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Ministry of Corporate Affairs' nod required The company said, "We would like to hereby inform that the board of directors of the Company vide resolution dated February 6, 2025, have approved the change in the name of the Company from ‘Zomato Limited’ to ‘Eternal Limited’, and the consequential amendment in the Memorandum of Association and Articles of Association to give effect to the same. Please note that this change is subject to the approval of the Shareholders of the Company, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and other applicable statutory authorities, as required." Zomato CEO pens down emotional letter to shareholders Justifying his move, Zomato CEO, Deepinder Goyal in an emotional letter to shareholders said that name of a company plays a huge role in shaping its future. Only company name will change not the brand, 'Zomato': Goyal He further said that only the company name will change, the brand name would still remain as Zomato. Meaning the food delivery platform would continue to provide services to customers under the brand name of Zomato. "zomato.com" will become "eternal.com": Goyal Following the completion of regulatory requirements, the website of the company will change from "zomato.com" to "eternal.com." But the app name will continue to be Zomato. Why Goyal chose 'Eternal'? Goyal further said, "Eternal is a powerful name, it carries both a promise and a paradox." According to him, it will help employees acknowledge their limitations and help them improve in day to day activities. The food entrepreneur has also said that the nomenclature change was actually predetermined and employees of the company were using it internally. The company's share was listed on the bourses on July 23, 2021. In a huge achievement for the company, it became the first tech startup in India to make it to the Sensex on December 23, 2024.
