No ‘toxic competition’ between us:Shubman Gill speaks on his camaraderie with Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma

Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill set the record straight on his camaraderie with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Abhishek Sharma after being quizzed about the race for the opening spot. Gill was a prominent opener before he started batting lower down the order. However, for the Champions Trophy, the Indian team are likely to go with the tried and tested pair of Gill and Rohit Sharma, while in-form youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal has also been included in the squad. Abhishek Sharma slammed a record-breaking 135-run knock in the fifth T20I against England and is likely to provide stiff competition to Jaiswal and Gill in the future. When Shubman was quizzed about the same, he clarified there was no 'toxic competition' between the trio. The 25-year-old insisted that they all try to do their best for India, and whoever performs, the other two will wish him well. Abhishek childhood friend of mine: Shubman Gill The trio were pictured together all smiles at the BCCI's annual Naman awards and Gill clarified that Abhishek is his childhood friend, and Jaiswal is also a friend of his. "Abhishek is a childhood friend of mine. Jaiswal is also a friend, I don t think there is any toxic competition between us. Obviously, if you are playing for the country, you want to perform in every match, and not think that I wish this guy doesn't perform," said Gill during the presser after India's training session on Tuesday. "You are playing for the country and for the team and whosoever performs you congratulate them," Gill said. Chopping and changing team will create insecure environment When quizzed about Karun Nair, who has piled mountain of runs in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Gill stated that it was unfortunate that he couldn't be picked in the team, but constant chopping and changing would affect the confidence of the players. "Karun had a great Vijay Hazare Trophy, but that doesn't mean the current players should be dropped. They have also performed well to reach this stage," said Gill. "We have lost only one game in the World Cups. The players in the squad have contributed significantly, and while it s unfortunate for those excelling in domestic cricket who weren't picked, constant chopping and changing will affect players confidence. Without continuity, we can never build a strong team," he added.Original Article
