Indian spin wizard Varun Chakravarthy has been included in India's squad for the ODI series against England, BCCI announced on social media. Chakravarthy joined the preparatory camp for the upcoming ODI series against England, despite not being named in the official squad initially. He picked 14 wickets against England during the five-match T20I series, winning the Player of the Series award. After being picked in the Indian squad for the ODI series, Varun Chakravarthy becomes a natural contender for the Champions Trophy as well, as the Men in Blue can make changes to their provisional squad till 12 February. "Yes, Varun Chakravarthy is part of the squad," India vice-captain Shubman Gill said in a media interaction after the team's training. Varun Chakravarthy sparks Champions Trophy rumours The Chennai-born cricketer was seen training with the Indian team at the VCA Stadium ahead of the first ODI which will be played on Thursday. Following impressive performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and 14 wickets against England, many ex-cricketers highlighted how Chakravarthy can be an X-factor for India at the Champions Trophy. The 33-year-old hasn't played any ODIs for India, meaning if the stars were to align, he could be in for a debut in the fifty overs format. Ravichandran Ashwin recently backed Varun Chakravarthy to be included in India's Champions Trophy side. "I have a feeling he might make it. There is a chance because all teams have named only a provisional squad. So, he might get picked. But, if you look at the existing squad, if a seamer goes out and Varun comes in, it will be an added spinner (five). I don't know who they would want to drop (if they think about getting Varun in). We will wait and see," Ashwin said on his YouTube channel. Champions Trophy rehearsal The three ODIs against England will serve as the final rehearsal for India before the Champions Trophy gets underway on 19 February, as the Men in Blue begin their campaign against Bangladesh on the 20th.
