The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) has taken a strong stance against social media influencer Elvish Yadav for his allegedly racist and derogatory comments about former Miss Arunachal and Big Boss contestant Chum Darang. APSCW chairperson Kenjum Pakam addressed a letter to the National Commission for Women highlighting the incident where Yadav, during a podcast with Big Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal, made offensive remarks about Darang. Yadav mocked both Darang and Karan Veer Mehra, making derogatory comments about Darang's name and her role in the film 'Gangubai Kathiawadi'. Yadav said 'Karan Veer ko pakka Covid tha kyuki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai? Aur Chum ke toh naam mai hi ashleelta hai. Naam Chum aur kaam 'Gangubai Kathiawadi' mai kiya hai.' The commission emphasised that such discriminatory behavior creates an intimidating environment for Northeast women pursuing entertainment careers and contributes to their marginalisation. Pakam called for strict legal action against Yadav for his comments, which were deemed insulting not only to Darang but to all women from Northeast India.
