‘Babar Azam’s English isn’t great’- Herschelle Gibbs:Ex-South Africa cricketer cites ‘language barrier’ as a challenge when asked to advice Pakistan batter

Former South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs has highlighted communication challenges with Pakistan's Babar Azam, citing language barriers as a significant hurdle during their time together at Karachi Kings. In a candid response on social media platform X, Gibbs stated: "Language is an issue with Babar.. as you know his English isn't great so it's difficult to get points across to him." Technical assessment The South African veteran, who worked with Azam during his coaching stint at the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise, observed that the batter's approach has remained largely unchanged over the years. "It was the first time I was working with him so for me it was more an observation than anything else but what I've seen since then is he hasn't changed his approach and still plays with the same tempo and same shots," Gibbs remarked on X. Recent performance The revelation comes amid Azam's recent form concerns, highlighted by his performance in the tri-series final against New Zealand where he managed 29 runs from 34 deliveries. The former Pakistan captain has not scored a century since August 2023. Personal perspective In a notable shift from his public image, Babar requested media and supporters to stop referring to him as "King," emphasising team success over individual recognition. "Please stop calling me King. I am not King, I am not there yet. There are new roles for me now," Babar said during a recent press interaction, adding, "Whatever I have done before is in the past. Every match is a fresh challenge, and I must focus on the present and future." What lies ahead for Pakistan? Pakistan now turns its attention to the upcoming Champions Trophy, scheduled to begin on February 19. The tournament will be co-hosted by Pakistan and the UAE with India's matches scheduled exclusively in Dubai due to security considerations.Original Article
