The theft happened in April 2023 at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Around 400 kg of gold (6,600 gold bars) and 2.5 million dollars in foreign currency were stolen from the cargo complex. The gold was taken while unloading luggage from a flight that had arrived from Zurich. Simranpreet was living in Brampton, Ontario, at the time. After the robbery, he fled to India. In June 2024, his lawyer said he would surrender, but he never did. Canadian authorities are still investigating the case under Project 24 Carat. However, locals are aware of the case against him in Canada. He has told people that the matter is resolved, but authorities say otherwise. 20 officers investigating the case Peel Regional Police have assigned 20 officers to solve the case. Investigators have spent over a year tracking suspects, conducting interviews, and checking CCTV footage. The stolen gold was transported in a truck, which has now been identified through CCTV. Authorities confirmed that this was the vehicle used to remove the gold from the cargo terminal. Simranpreet’s lawyer promised his return In June 2024, Simranpreet’s lawyer, Greg Lafontaine, stated that his client had full faith in Canada’s justice system. He had also promised that Simranpreet would return to Canada to prove his innocence. So far, nine people have been charged in the case.
