The prize money of Champions Trophy 2025 was revealed last week, as all 8 teams will fight it out for the astronomical $6.9 million sum up for grabs. The winning team will receive a mammoth $2.24 million, approximately Rs 19.45 crore, however, the prize money for the champions looks dwarfed when it's compared to IPL salaries of some legends of the game. For the unversed, Virat Kohli's salary for the IPL 2025 season, after being retained by Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stands at Rs 21 crore. That's more than the sum, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) received for winning the IPL 2024 season. KKR were awarded a prize money of Rs 20 crore. Salaries of 6 IPL stars bigger than Champions Trophy prize money The IPL remains the crown jewel of world cricket, which is reflected by the fact that not one, two or three, but as many as six players will be earning salaries higher than the prize money offered to the winning team of the Champions Trophy. Among the six players are Rishabh Pant (Rs 27 crore) who is the most expensive player in IPL history. Lucknow Super Giants broke the bank to sign Pant in the IPL mega auction. He surpassed Shreyas Iyer (Rs 26.75 crore) as the most expensive pick after Punjab Kings splashed the cash on the Mumbai batter. At number 3 is the KKR's Venkatesh Iyer (Rs 23.75 crore), followed by Sunrisers Hyderabad's Heinrich Klaasen (Rs 23 crore). RCB retained their talismanic batter Virat Kohli for Rs 21 crore, while Lucknow Super Giants also retained Nicholas Pooran for Rs 21 crore. Breakdown of Champions Trophy prize money The Champions Trophy prize pool was more than doubled from eight years ago, when it was last played in 2017. The runners-up will receive a handsome $1.12 million (Rs 9.72 crore), and the losing semi-finalists will receive $560,000 (Rs 4.86 crore) each. The teams finishing fifth or sixth will receive $350,000 (Rs 3.04 crore) each, and the sides which will finish seventh and eighth will get $140,000 (Rs 1.21 crore). All teams will be awarded $34,000 (Rs 29 lakh) for winning every group stage fixture, and a participation sum of $125,000 (Rs 1.08 crore).Original Article
