Sensex, Nifty settle flat for 2nd straight session:IT stocks play spoilsport; BSE Small Cap rallies more than 2%; FIIs turn net-buyers

India's benchmark stock gauges Sensex and Nifty settled flat for the second straight session on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. The 30 companies pack closed marginally in red at 75,939 points. While, the broader constituent gauge also finished in the negative territory at 22,932 points. IT stocks drag Sensex Stocks like Infosys, TCS, HUL, Bharti Airtel, Power Grid, Sun Pharma, Bajaj Finserv, HCL Tech, MM, Tech Mahindra, Nestle, Maruti, Bajaj Finance Ultra Cement, etc dragged the barometre down into negative territory. Nifty IT registers highest loss; NSE Realty, Media report gain Among the National Stock Exchange’s (NSE) thematic indices, Nifty IT closed with the highest losses. While, Nifty Realty and Nifty Media were amongst those which closed day's trading session in green. BSE Small Cap makes a comeback The small cap stock gauge of the BSE rallied on Wednesday contrary to its last few days’ negative trend. The 20 constituent index closed 2.70% higher at 45,455 points. Mixed Asian cues FIIs turn net buyers On February 18, the Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) had turned net-buyers of the domestic equities for the first time in last few sessions. Domestic equities have seen merciless selling from overseas investors right since September 2024. Albeit, on Tuesday, they lapped up shares worth ₹4,786.56 crore. While, Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) sold equities worth ₹3,072.19 crore. FIIs selling crossed the ₹1 lakh crore mark for the first time in the current calendar year. Crude Oil prices buoyant In energy trading, Brent crude, the international standard, traded positively around $76 per barrel on Wednesday.
