The Men in Blue defeated the Bangla Tigers by 6 wickets on Thursday, 20 February at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Vice-captain Shubman Gill smashed a second consecutive hundred in 125 balls, following a 112-run knock against England last week. Rohit Sharma's men collected two valuable points to put pressure on arch-rivals Pakistan ahead of what is the do-or-die fixture for the Champions Trophy hosts on 23 February. A defeat to India will see Pakistan's hopes of reaching the semifinals dashed, after their loss to New Zealand earlier. Bangladesh's survival from 35/5 to 228 all out With Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto choosing to bat first after winning the toss, his team were off to a nightmarish start as they lost five wickets for 35 runs. The skipper himself failed to open his account, alongside Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim, while Tanzid Hasan scored 25. Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali revived the Bangla Tigers from the dead with their 154-run partnership. Hridoy's century in vain The youngster battled cramps and excruciating pain to somehow pull through to a century, helping his side to a respectable total, while Jaker Ali scored 68, after getting a lifeline on his first ball. Axar Patel could have had his maiden international hat-trick but Rohit Sharma failed to take the catch and Ali ended up taking the opportunity with both hands. Rishad Hossain added 18 valuable runs to the total even as Mohammed Shami picked up a fifer. Shami's double century and fifer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the lot among the bowlers, getting five wickets as he surpassed the 200 ODI wickets mark. The match was also Ravindra Jadeja's 200th ODI fixture. Rohit Sharma gets past 11,000 ODI runs Indian captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill set out to chase the 229-run target.
