One of the prime accused in the murder of NCP (Ajit faction) leader Baba Siddiqui, Zeeshan Akhtar alias Jaicy Purewal, has managed to escape abroad. Sources suggest that his escape was facilitated by Shehzad Bhatti, a close associate of Pakistan-based mafia don Farooq Khokhar. Zeeshan’s video message and threats Dainik Bhaskar has a video of Zeeshan Akhtar, in which he claims that he has left Asia. He also issued a veiled threat to his adversaries, warning them that security measures won’t help. However, his current location remains unknown. According to Punjab Police sources, Zeeshan’s last known location was in Nepal about a month ago, but his whereabouts since then remain untraced. Murder of Baba Siddiqui and arrests On October 12, 2024, at 9:30 PM, Baba Siddiqui was shot dead at Kher Wadi signal in Bandra, Mumbai. Six bullets were fired at him, and he succumbed to his injuries at Lilavati Hospital at 11:27 PM. The notorious Lawrence gang took responsibility for the murder. Four suspects, including Harish Kumar from Uttar Pradesh, Gurmail Baljeet Singh from Haryana, Dharmraj Kashyap from UP, and Praveen Lonkar from Maharashtra, were arrested in connection with the case. Zeeshan Akhtar’s criminal background A resident of Nakodar, Jalandhar, Zeeshan was involved in stone installation work before turning to crime. He is wanted in nine cases, including murder, robbery, and target killing. After being released from jail on June 7, 2024, he connected with Lawrence gang members, executing his first murder in Tarn Taran under the orders of gangster Vikram Barad. He later assassinated Baba Siddiqui on Lawrence’s instructions. Role of Shehzad Bhatti and his global network In his video, Zeeshan openly credits Shehzad Bhatti for his escape and calls him his 'big brother.' Bhatti, a key figure in Farooq Khokhar’s gang, has been involved in land disputes, arms smuggling, and organized crime. His influence extends across Pakistan, Dubai, the USA, and Canada. Bhatti’s connections with lawrence and Salman Khan Previously, a viral video call between Lawrence and Bhatti showed them exchanging Eid greetings while Lawrence was in Sabarmati Jail. Bhatti later claimed to have attempted mediation between Lawrence and Bollywood actor Salman Khan. He also stated that Baba Siddiqui’s murder could be linked to his close ties with Salman.
