Police seize 2 kg heroin hidden near Amritsar canal:Recover total 15 kg drugs; Pakistan-based network exposed, used drones to smuggle

Punjab Police has made another major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on drug smuggling. Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has seized an additional 2 kg of heroin hidden near a canal in Boparai Baj Singh village, based on revelations from accused smuggler Harmandeep Singh. With this latest recovery, the total heroin haul in this case has now reached 15 kg, as confirmed by Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav. Earlier, the police had arrested Harmandeep Singh from Ghumanpura village in Amritsar, recovering 10 kg of heroin from his possession. During interrogation, he exposed a cross-border smuggling network, leading to the recent 2 kg heroin seizure. Additionally, two days ago, police apprehended Harmandeep’s accomplice, Lovepreet Singh, and confiscated 3 kg of heroin from him. Smuggling linked to Pakistan-based network According to DGP Yadav, the heroin consignment was smuggled from Pakistan using drones. The operation was orchestrated by a notorious Pakistan-based smuggler, ‘Chacha Bawa.’ Investigations are ongoing to identify other members of this trafficking network, and more arrests are expected soon. FIR No. 8 has been registered under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act at the State Special Operation Cell police station, Amritsar, on February 18, 2025. Police’s ongoing crackdown on drug trade Punjab Police had already taken significant action against drug trafficking in 2024. CI Amritsar arrested 29 traffickers and registered 14 FIRs throughout the year. The seizures included 153.6 kg of heroin, 4 kg of ICE, 31.9 kg of caffeine, 17 kg of dextromethorphan, and ₹1.10 crore in drug money. With this latest success, Punjab Police continues its aggressive campaign against cross-border drug smuggling, aiming to dismantle the networks flooding the state with narcotics.Original Article
