Girls Will Be Girls, directed by Shuchi Talati and produced by Bollywood actors Richa Chadha and Ali Fazal, has clinched the prestigious John Cassavetes Award at the 40th Independent Spirit Awards. The award recognises excellence in films made under $1 million. In the Best Feature category, 'Anora' emerged victorious, beating out contenders including I Saw the TV Glow, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance. The film's achievements extended beyond direction, with actress Kani Kusruti receiving a nomination for Best Supporting Performance. She competed in a strong category alongside notable performers including Yura Borisov and Karren Karagulian (Anora), Joan Chen (Dìdi), Danielle Deadwyler (The Piano Lesson), Carol Kane (Between the Temples), Brigette Lundy-Paine (I Saw the TV Glow), Clarence Divine Eye Maclin (Sing Sing), and Adam Pearson (A Different Man). The award ultimately went to Kieran Culkin for his performance in A Real Pain.
