Ukraine and a number of European nations presented a counterproposal to US President Donald Trump, who had suggested a land swap to end the ongoing war. According to the Wall Street Journal, Ukraine and European nations insisted that a “ceasefire must take place before any other steps are taken.” They also advocated a strictly “reciprocal” exchange of territory, on the condition that “ironclad security guarantees, including NATO membership, must be given to Ukraine.
