A new Pew study reveals how India defies the global decline in religion. As Christianity wanes, Hinduism in India remains resilient, while Islam, fuelled by demographics, rises fast worldwide. The report, based on more than 2,700 censuses and surveys across 201 countries, shows that while global religious affiliation is weakening, Hinduism in India remains stable and deeply rooted. From the US and Europe to Japan and Australia, Christianity and Buddhism are seeing widespread disaffiliation. The number of people who say they have “no religion” has surged.
