Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has predicted that India may have missed a trick by picking as many as five spinners in the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. With the late addition of Varun Chakravarthy after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out, the Indian team have as many as five spin options in the 15-member travelling party. Apart from Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, Chakravarthy was an 11th-hour addition to the side, after Bumrah failed to recover in time from the back injury he sustained in January. Ashwin feels India have kept one or two spinners 'too many' while adding that both Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja will feature in the playing XI alongside Hardik Pandya. India have one or two spinners too many: Ashwin With an onus to increase the batting depth, the Indian management have picked a handful of all-rounders in the squad. However, Ashwin, speaking on his YouTube channel 'Ash ki baat' feels Washington and Varun might find it difficult to play ahead of the others. Five spinners in Dubai? I don't know. I think we are one spinner too many if not two. The two left-arm spinners are your best all-rounders alongside Hardik Pandya. So both Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja are going to play. Hardik will also play and Kuldeep will play What will be India's playing XI for Champions Trophy? Varun Chakravarthy was in red-hot form against England in the T20I series picking 14 wickets, and later he'd go on to make his ODI debut as well. Ashwin stated that to include Varun, India will have to bench either Mohammed Shami or Arshdeep Singh and go with Hardik as the second-choice pacer. With Pandya's injury record, it could prove to be a risky move. If you want Varun Chakravarthy in the team, then you will have to make a pacer sit out and use Hardik as your second pacer. Else you will have to drop a spinner to bring in a third seamer The Men in Blue will begin their campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February. They will fly for Dubai on Saturday, and acclimatise to conditions there for a few days, but there are no practice matches scheduled for the Indian team.Original Article
