Ballari administration to organise tribal fest in March first week
The date for the event and the venue would be finalised after consulting the district In-charge Minister

Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Mishra said a State-level tribal festival would be held in Ballari during the first week of March to showcase the rich cultural tradition of tribal communities in Karnataka.
Mr. Mishra held a preparatory meeting of district-level officials at his office in Ballari on February 5 and directed the officials in the Department of Kannada and Culture to start preparations to make the event a success.
“The government has decided to hold a State-level tribal festival for 2024-25 in Ballari under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP). The event will be held in the first week of March 2025. This is the first event of its kind to be held in Ballari district. The officials from all the departments, especially those in the Department of Kannada and Culture, must start preparations to make the event a grand success. They should consult tribal community leaders and discuss the things to be taken care of in the organisation of the event,” Mr. Mishra said adding that the date of the event and the venue would be finalised after consulting the district In-charge Minister.
Expecting the participation of over 600 cultural activists from tribal communities across the State in the event, Mr. Mishra directed the officials to make arrangements for their accommodation, food and travel. He suggested forming different committees to exclusively focus on food, travel, accommodation, stage management, traffic management, security and other crucial things.
“Focus on students from Scheduled Tribes and ensure their participation. You can visit schools, colleges and hostels to invite them to participate in the event. Organise competitions for them in the demonstration of the rich tribal culture through poems, painting, drawing, singing and other forms of cultural expression. Make plans for distributing prizes to the winners in the event,” he said.
Ashok Chalavadi, Joint Director of the Kannada and Culture Department, said that the main purpose of the event was to provide a platform to tribal communities to demonstrate their rich culture and tradition.
“There are hundreds of artists from different tribal communities in the State. They have their own talents to demonstrate their rich cultural traditions through art, painting, sculpture, music, dance and other forms of expression. We need to ensure that they get a fair chance to showcase their talents in the event,” he said.
The tribal community leaders who were present in the meeting insisted that local tribal artists, especially those from the communities that were on the verge of extinction, should be given priority in the event.
Additional Superintendent of Police Naveen Kumar, Joint Director of Kannada and Culture (Kalaburagi division) Basavaraj Hugar and Assistant Director (Ballari) B. Nagaraj, Deputy Director of Social Welfare Mallikarjun, Scheduled Tribes Welfare Officer Diwakar, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Vijay Kumar and other senior officers were present.
