Bangladesh go into the Champions Trophy as rank underdogs, with possibly the weakest squad in the tournament and relatively low expectations. But what are their best attributes and how could the Bangla Tigers spring a surprise in the tournament in Pakistan and the UAE. Strengths Bangladesh have always been a bowling side. That has stayed the same as they enter this tournament with a strong pace battery of Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana. All three specialise in different phases of the game, Taskin with the new ball, Rana through the middle as an enforcer and the Fizz at the death with his cutters. Mehidy Hasan Miraz is a lethal spinner to play in Asian conditions and will be aided by Nasum Ahmed and Rishad Hossein. Weaknesses An unreliable batting order relying heavily on captain Najmul Shanto is Bangaldesh's achilles heel. If their skipper fails to do the heavy lifting then the responsibility comes down to the inexperienced and unproven trio of Tanzid Hasan, Jaker Ali and Parvez Hossain Emon. Surprisingly, Bangladesh also left experienced keeper-batsman Litton Das out of their squad reducing the reliability of their batting lineup. Opportunities Bangladesh excel on slow and sluggish, turning Asian pitches and the ones in the UAE and Pakistan which will slow down as the tournament progresses, provide Bangladesh the perfect opportunity to try and edge out wins in low scoring games where their lack of batting firepower can be covered up by their know-how of winning games on such wickets. New Zealand and Pakistan both lack lethal spin departments and could come unstuck against the Bangla Tigers in tricky conditions. Threats Ultimately, Bangladesh suffer from a lack of quality compared to the top sides and have probably the lowest ceiling of the 8 teams in the tournament. It won't help that theirs is a team in transition, moving on from all-time greats like Shakib and Tamim whilst yet to find a footing with their current generation.Original Article
