The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a Special General Meeting (SGM) for the election of new Joint Secretary. The SGM will be held on March 1 in Mumbai. The Joint Secretary position has been vacant since Devajit Saikia was elected as BCCI Secretary last month, replacing Jay Shah. According to BCCI's constitution, this position must be filled within 45 days. SGM notice sent to State Associations On behalf of Secretary Saikia, BCCI sent an SGM notice to State Associations on Thursday evening (February 6). The notice states that the election will be held at BCCI headquarters in Mumbai at 12 noon. Generally, 21 days notice is required to call an SGM and BCCI has followed the statutory requirement. Second SGM in less than two months This will be BCCI's second SGM in less than two months. The last election was held on January 12, when a new secretary (Saikia) and new treasurer (Prabhtej Singh Bhatia) were elected. Both were elected unopposed. There is unlikely to be any contest for the joint secretary position. Consensus will be reached before filing nominations. A candidate from the Western region is likely to get this position.
