Cockroach Janta Party Protest LIVE: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), a social media-driven movement founded by Boston University graduate and digital strategist Abhijeet Dipke, is holding a protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 6, with participants demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest was announced by the party through its X handle. Ahead of the demonstration, founder Abhijeet Dipke said he was returning to India to participate in the event leaving ‘his fate to hands of the constitution’.
The Delhi High Court on Friday declined to grant an urgent hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking preventive, regulatory and crowd-control measures in connection with the proposed protest.
The Cockroach Janta Party traces its origins to remarks made by Chief Justice Surya Kant during a hearing, when he compared young unemployed youth with fake law degrees to cockroaches. The comment sparked online discussions and eventually inspired the formation of the ‘satirical political movement’.
What began as an internet-driven campaign has since grown into a sizeable online community. The party claims to have attracted millions of supporters across social media platforms, with its Instagram account alone drawing more than 8 million followers. The movement has also received support from several public figures, including social activist Sonam Wangchuk and actor Prakash Raj.
Delhi Police Says CJP Has Not Sought Permission for June 6 Protest, Deploys 1,000 Personnel
The Delhi Police has not received any request from the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) seeking permission for its proposed protest at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, even as more than 1,000 police personnel have been deployed across New Delhi as a precautionary measure, PTI reported.
Police sources said authorities became aware of the proposed protest primarily through social media posts and online messages circulated by the Abhijeet Dipke-led outfit. A senior officer told the news agency that the police would examine the request if and when the organisation formally seeks permission.
Senior Delhi Police officers held a high-level review meeting on Friday, while district units have been placed on standby. Sources described the situation as 'very dynamic', with assessments being conducted based on intelligence inputs and ground conditions.
The CJP has called for a protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged examination-related lapses. The group's founder, Abhijeet Dipke, who is returning from the United States to participate in the protest, has urged supporters to gather in Delhi on June 6.
Meanwhile, the party shared videos of police barricades on social media, claiming authorities had tightened arrangements ahead of the proposed demonstration.
CJP Seeks Dharmendra Pradhan’s Removal Ahead of Jantar Mantar Protest
Hours before Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke was scheduled to arrive in Delhi for the group's proposed protest, the youth pressure group appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to remove Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Cabinet.
Dipke, currently in Boston, is expected to land in the national capital around 8 am on Saturday. According to the group, he will be joined by activists, including Sonam Wangchuk, in approaching the Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission for a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
“On my way to India… Leaving my fate in the hands of the Constitution. #JaiBhim,” Dipke said in a post on X.
