‘Cruelty by husband’: Crimes against women up marginally in 2023 – NCRB report

Crimes against women in India marginally increased by 0.7% in 2023, reaching 4.48 lakh cases, with “cruelty by husband or relatives” accounting for the largest share. The NCRB reported 29,670 rape cases, including 852 victims under 18. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest total cases, while Delhi had the highest crime rate per lakh women.
