Two sisters-in-law shot dead by bouncer.
RAIPUR: A late-night domestic dispute turned into a double murder in Chhattisgarh’s capital Raipur when a bouncer walked into his in-laws’ house in Mowa and shot dead his two sisters-in-law.The accused later surrendered before police. The two women, Geetanjali (26) and Durgeshwari (24), were shot during the incident. Geetanjali died on the spot after being hit in the forehead, while Durgeshwari, who sustained a bullet injury to her back, succumbed during treatment on Wednesday morning.Raipur DCP Mayank Gurjar said the accused, identified as Jitendra Verma, a bouncer by profession, entered his in-laws’ house near Mowa market carrying a licensed pistol and opened fire following an argument.According to police and local accounts, the incident stemmed from ongoing marital discord. On Tuesday, after an argument, the accused’s wife left for her parental home with their child. Unable to contact her later, Jitendra allegedly went to the house in an inebriated state, insisting on meeting the child. When Geetanjali and Durgeshwari stepped out and tried to reason with him, asking him to return later, the situation escalated.Enraged, Jitendra allegedly pulled out his pistol and began firing. One shot struck Geetanjali on the forehead, causing her to collapse instantly, while another hit Durgeshwari in the back, leaving her critically injured. The gunshots sent shockwaves through the neighbourhood. Residents reported hearing multiple rounds of firing and alerted police. By the time officials reached the spot, the two women were found lying in a pool of blood inside the house.Empty cartridges recovered from the scene indicated that multiple shots had been fired. In a dramatic turn, the accused did not attempt to flee. Witnesses said he stepped out onto the road and allegedly fired in the air before heading to the police station and surrendering. Police took him into custody and seized the licensed weapon used in the crime.During initial questioning, Jitendra confessed to the shooting, telling police that the attack followed a family dispute. However, investigators said the exact sequence of events and the extent of the altercation are still being verified. The DCP said a case has been registered. “The accused has been detained, the weapon recovered, and we are examining all aspects of the case, including the circumstances that led to the firing.”The incident has left the locality in shock, with residents describing it as a rare but deeply disturbing act of violence within a family setting.Police will question family members and neighbours to piece together the full sequence of events and establish motive and intent before filing detailed charges.
