Explosion On Singapore Cargo Ship Near Kerala Coast, Navy Responds, INS Surat Deployed

An underdeck explosion occurred aboard the Singapore-flagged container ship MV Wan Hai 503 off the Kerala coast triggering a fire and forcing 18 crew members to abandon the vessel. All crew were safely rescued through coordinated efforts by the Indian Navy and Coast Guard. The explosion was reported at 10:30 am by the Maritime Operations Centre in Mumbai and relayed to Kochi. In response, INS Surat was diverted to the site, and a Dornier aircraft sortie was planned from INS Garuda for aerial assessment. There were no reports of injuries or environmental damage.
