Infosys lays off 700 freshers months after joining firm:NITES accuses of using intimidation tactics, INFY says they failed to clear internal assessments

Infosys has reportedly laid off nearly 700 freshers from its Mysuru campus, a move that has sparked controversy and criticism from the IT employees' union, Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). The union claims that these employees were terminated just months after joining the company and were allegedly forced to sign confidentiality agreements to suppress details of the layoffs. NITES has accused Infosys of using intimidation tactics, alleging that security personnel and bouncers were deployed during the termination process to prevent employees from documenting the incident or seeking help. President Singh Saluja called the layoffs shocking Harpreet Singh Saluja, president of NITES, called the layoffs 'shocking and unethical,' highlighting concerns over job security and corporate accountability. Defending its decision, Infosys stated that the affected freshers failed to clear multiple internal assessments, which are a standard part of the onboarding process. According to the company, all freshers are given three attempts to pass the tests, and failing to do so results in termination, as outlined in their employment contracts. Infosys emphasised that this policy has been in place for over two decades and is necessary to maintain performance standards. Union demanding strict action In response, NITES has announced plans to file an official complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment, urging government intervention. The union is demanding strict action against Infosys, calling the terminations an instance of corporate exploitation that undermines the rights of Indian IT workers. The situation has raised broader concerns about employment practices in the IT sector and the challenges fresh graduates face in securing stable jobs.Original Article
