The fitness of Jasprit Bumrah is the biggest headache for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ahead of the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. The tear-away pacer is set to begin his rehabilitation at the NCA in Bengaluru this week, as per reports. The BCCI will wait till the last moment to have Bumrah fit for the marquee tournament. They followed a similar approach with Hardik Pandya who was injured during the 2023 ODI World Cup. BCCI will hope that Bumrah can recover in time for the latter stages of the Champions Trophy, and if not, then they can still approach the Event Technical Committee to rope in a replacement for Bumrah if he cannot regain fitness before the end of the tournament. BCCI to wait till the end for Jasprit Bumrah's fitness According to a report in the Times of India, Bumrah will begin his rehab after undergoing scans earlier last week. The pacer will begin with light physical activity like gym work and mild bowling before building intensity. The ICC has set 12 February as the date for all teams to finalize their squads, but the BCCI can still name a replacement for Bumrah after the tournament gets underway. The report quoted a source saying that the BCCI will wait even if there is a 1% chance to have Jasprit Bumrah back in the squad. They will follow a similar approach to how the apex board waited for two weeks after Hardik Pandya got injured during the ODI World Cup in 2023, before roping in Prasidh Krishna as his replacement. How can Team India name a replacement for Bumrah once Champions Trophy begins? The Indian team can approach the Event Technical Committee to seek a replacement in case Bumrah doesn't get fit in time. Following his back injury during the fifth Test at SCG in January, Jasprit was reportedly told to off-load for five weeks. The 31-year-old was initially named in India's ODI squad for the last match on 12th February, but Varun Chakravarthy was added to the team to not rush Bumrah back into the action, BCCI hope to give him ample time to recover.Original Article
