She later appeared as a child artist in director Kedar Sharma's film Mumtaz Mahal. During Madhubala's screen test for the film Neelkamal, director Kedar Sharma developed feelings for her. At the time, she was around 14-15 years old and too young to understand love. Though they shared a brief relationship, Madhubala soon distanced herself from him.
