From the time the aviation industry regulator the, Directorate General Of Civil Aviation (DGCA), advised air carriers to reduce fares on flights en-route to Prayagraj owing to the ongoing festival of Mahakumbh, the ticket prices have fallen by around 46%. In total obedience to the aviation watchdog’s advisory, the carriers have also increased frequency on the air routes leading to the “City of God.” Lets see on which routes and by how much the fares have crashed: On Delhi to Prayagraj route, the minimum fare had stood at ₹24,277 on January 28, 2025. While, currently the prices have fallen to as low as ₹13,094 for flights on February 07. The air fares have crashed by 46% on this route within a period of just 10 days. Airfare on Mumbai to Prayagraj route: While, on January 31, the tickets were available for not below ₹22,152 on Mumbai to Prayagraj route. While, on February 12, the fares are available for as low as ₹15,504. This translates to 30% downfall. The Maha Kumbh Mela is celebrated every 12 years. It is a Hindu festival that takes place in four cities in India. The festival rotates between these cities, which are located on the banks of sacred rivers. Mahakumbh airfares skyrocketed to ₹50,000 This time it is being organised in Prayagraj earlier known as Allahabad. Since, it is organised after a long gap, this attracted pilgrims in huge numbers leading to soaring high air fares. Before DGCA’s advisory, the fares had skyrocketed to as high as ₹50,000. Upon several complaints made on social media platforms, the operators flung into action and as a result ticket prices have finally made a landing. Prayagraj connectivity extended to 15 cities According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, earlier the holy city of Prayagraj was connected with only eight cities, but, after the rush, the ministry made arrangements to increase the connectivity with total of 15 cities. According to the Uttar Pradesh government, more than 38 crore pilgrims have visited the Maha Kumbh since January 13, 2025. The festival will conclude on February 26.Original Article
