Measles strikes at birth: Six Canadian newborns infected from unvaccinated mothers

Six babies in Ontario contracted measles before birth. Their mothers were unvaccinated. Doctor Kieran Moore says vaccination could have prevented these infections. Canada eliminated measles in 1998. Ontario has seen over 2,000 cases since October. Congenital measles can cause premature birth and brain inflammation. Vaccination before pregnancy is crucial. Intravenous immunoglobulin is recommended if exposed during pregnancy.
