Record 42-time winners of the Ranji Trophy, Mumbai remain on course for a record-extending 43rd crown as they defeated Haryana to storm into the semifinals. Mumbai defeated Haryana by 152 runs at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday. In the quarter-final fixture, Ajinky Rahane slammed a century after 762 days in his 200th First-Class match. Having missed a century in the previous game, Rahane scored 108 off 180 balls after a slow start to the season. Mumbai scored 315 runs in their first innings, Haryana scored 301 in reply, while the holders posted a 339-run total in the second innings, but Haryana folded for 201 on Day 4. Shardul Thakur won the Player of the Match award, continuing his red-hot form as he picked up nine wickets in the fixture, whilst also scoring 21 runs. Rahane marks 200th First-Class match with special ton Ajinkya was dismissed for 96 in Mumbai's last league stage match against Meghalaya. He went unbeaten on Day 3 and notched his ton before getting caught behind on Anuj Thakral's bowling. It was his 200th First-Class match and what a day to end his wait for a first ton since the 2022/23 season. He last scored a century against Assam in January 2023. Earlier in the first innings, Tanush Kotian scored 97 and Shams Mulani slammed 91 to help Mumbai to 315 runs. Suryakumar Yadav shines on Ranji return Anshul Kamboj and Sumit Kumar both picked up 3 wickets each for Haryana. In reply, they could only score 301 as Shardul picked six wickets while Ankit Rajesh Kumar scored 136 in 206 balls. Riding on Rahane's ton and Suryakumar Yadav's 70-run knock, Mumbai gave Haryana a target of 354 but they could only muster up 201 runs with Royston Dias picking up a fifer.Original Article
