Renowned Hindustani classical singer Pandit Prabhakar Karekar passed away on Wednesday night at the age of 80. He had been unwell for some time. A highly respected figure in the world of classical music, he made significant contributions to the art form throughout his career. He is survived by his three sons. Pandit Prabhakar Karekar's mortal remains will be kept at his home in Dadar for final viewing today. Following this, his last rites will be performed at Dadar crematorium at 5 PM today. Pandit Prabhakar Karekar was born in Goa Pandit Prabhakar Karekar was born in 1944 in Goa. However, he received his classical music education from Pandit Suresh Haldankar, Pandit Jitendra Abhisheki, and Pandit C.R. Vyas. Pandit Prabhakar was known for compositions like Bolava Vitthal Pahava Vitthal and Vakratunda Mahakaya. He was an excellent singer and a good teacher. Honored with these awards He was awarded many honours including the Tansen Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and Gomant Vibhushan Award. Karekar also tried his hand at fusion music with Ornette Coleman and Sultan Khan. He was a recognised artist of All India Radio. He used to sing in national programs and music conferences broadcast from Delhi. He also got the opportunity to sing from various centers of All India Radio.
