Deputy Commissioner Dr Sona Thind today directed officials concerned to repair black spots and install rumble strips and signboards in front of all schools to prevent road accidents.
Presiding over a meeting of the Road Safety Committee, she said it was unfortunate that more people were dying due to accidents than natural deaths. The government had taken various initiatives and set up a special force to prevent accidents and rush the injured immediately to the hospital to save lives.
She said in January, the Regional Transport Office issued challans to 96 vehicle owners for violating traffic rules and imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on them. Apart from this, challans were issued to owners of 10 school buses after checking 51 school buses under the Safe School Vehicle Policy.
The DC directed all SDMs to personally review the implementation of directions regarding black spots, signboards and rumble strips. She directed the officials of the National Highway Authority of India and Public Works Department to send a detailed report on the action taken to repair black spots. She also asked for the formation of a committee for the expenditure related to road safety.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Geetika Singh, SDM Fatehgarh Sahib Arvind Gupta, SDM Bassi Pathana Harbir Kaur, Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Singh Dhillon, Assistant Civil Surgeon Dr. Amrik Singh, Assistant Regional Transport Officer Pradeep Singh, Child Protection Officer Neha Singla and officers of various departments were present in the meeting.
