The 1997 blockbuster 'Pardes' almost starred Ronit Roy instead of Shah Rukh Khan. In an interview with Rajeev Khandelwal, Ronit disclosed that despite his close relationship with director Subhash Ghai—who was his father Brothindranath Roy's friend and his mentor—the role wasn't his. Though Mukta Productions had "99.9 percent" confirmed him, Ronit discovered his replacement, whom he now considers "like a younger brother," through the film's announcement. When questioned about his replacement, Ronit Roy only asked "why," receiving a cryptic response about a promise to someone's father. Despite his 1992 hit debut 'Jaan Tere Naam' and roles in 'Lakshya', 'Sainik', and 'Rock Star', Ronit's breakthrough came as Mr. Bajaj in 'Kasautii Zindagii Kay'. His talent was later recognised with a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Role in 'Udaan' (2011).Original Article by Dainik Bhaskar
