On Monday, February 24, the BSE Sensex is trading at 74,454 having dropped by a huge 856 points. The NSE Nifty has also declined by 242 points, trading at 22,553. Out of the 30 Sensex shares, 23 declined while 7 gained. Out of 50 Nifty shares, 38 declined while 12 gained. In the NSE sectoral index, Nifty IT has fallen the most by 2.71%. There is a decline of about 2.17% in the metal, oil and gas, and bank indices. However, Nifty's pharma index has gained by 0.20%. Three reasons for the market decline 1. Slow pace of US growth: After signs of slow business activity and weak consumer sentiment, the US market closed with a decline on Friday. Survey findings revealed that business activity in the US has reached a 17-month low, reflecting growing concerns over economic uncertainties. 2. Uncertainty from Trump Tariffs: There is uncertainty in the market due to Trump's threat of imposing reciprocal tariffs on other countries, including India. Trump said, 'We will impose reciprocal tariffs. Whether it is any country, India or China, whatever they charge us, we will do the same. We want equality in trade.' 3. Continuous Selling by FII: FII sold shares worth ₹3,449.15 crore on Friday. So far this month, foreign investors have sold more than ₹23,710 crore from Indian markets. This has led to a total outflow of more than ₹1 lakh crore in 2025. Big drop in US markets Quality Power's share listed 1.66% up at ₹432.05 Quality Power Electrical Equipments Limited's share was listed today on BSE at ₹432.05, 1.66% above the issue price. On NSE, the share was listed at ₹430, 1.18% above the issue price. The issue price of Quality Power's IPO was ₹425. This IPO was open for bidding from February 14 to February 18, and was subscribed 1.29 times in total. In the retail category, the IPO was subscribed 1.82 times. Huge drop in the stock market last week On Friday, the last trading day of the week, February 21, Sensex closed at 75,311 with a decline of 424 points. Nifty also saw a decline of 117 points, closing at 22,795. Out of the 30 Sensex shares, 22 saw a decline and 8 saw an increase. Out of the 50 Nifty shares, 37 saw a decline and 13 saw an increase. The auto sector in the NSE sectoral index saw the largest decline of 2.58%.
