Tamil Nadu Government Formation Live Updates: A day after Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Arlekar’s decided to delay TVK chief Vijay’s swearing-in, Congress MP Manickam Tagore accused the BJP of using the Governor to “buy” time and legislators. Tamil Nadu Congress is staging a protest against the BJP-led Union government and the Governor for not inviting its new ally to form the next government despite the TVK emerging as the single-largest party with 108 candidates winning the Assembly elections. “In a democracy, people decide who will form the Government…BJP is using Governor to ‘buy’ Time and MLAs. Don’t worry, people are with us and buyers like you will have egg of their face,” Manickam Tagore said.
More DMK allies weigh joining Vijay’s TVK: Several allies of outgoing Chief Minister and DMK supremo MK Stalin are considering joining actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to form the government. These include the Thol Thirumavalavan-led VCK, the CPI(M) and the CPI. The parties have won two seats each. The TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the state with 108 legislators elected, but by itself, the debutant is 10 seats short of the mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. On the other hand, IUML president KM Kader Mohideen, whose party also won two seats, said they will accept the decision made by the MK Stalin.

Congress-DMK rift: The Congress, with five MLAs in the Assembly, has decided to partner with the TVK to help form the government. This brings the total number of elected legislators in the coalition to 113. The grand old party’s move to end its decades-long alliance with the DMK has caused divisions within the INDIA bloc. The Dravidian party, with whom the Congress allied to contest the election, adopted several resolutions, including one criticising the Congress for abandoning its ally. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Anadurai said the party “backstabbed the people of Tamil Nadu.”
