A Liberia-flagged container vessel, MSC ELSA 3, tilted dangerously off the Kochi coast, prompting a rescue operation. Twenty-one of the twenty-four crew members were rescued, while the captain and two engineers stayed to assist salvage efforts. Some containers with hazardous cargo, including marine gas oil, fell into the sea.
