Union Minister for Communications and Development of Northeastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia on Wednesday called out to the community of entrepreneurs from Chennai to reignite the trade between the Brahmaputra and the Coromandel Coast. He was speaking at the Northeast Trade and Investment Roadshow held at Hotel Hilton here.

Addressing the city’s business community, he said that Chennai’s capabilities, especially in the area of IT and software, manufacturing, logistics, education and talent creation, and urban development could be put to use in the Northeast, the place where the sun first rises in India.

Praising the OMR (Rajiv Gandhi Salai) stretch, he said it was a powerhouse of IT and innovation, and amounted to 2.5 lakh crore of software exports.

Mr. Scindia said Sriperumbudur manufactured about 30% of the country’s automative exports and that 5G and 6G testbeds had been established at IIT-Madras. He said that there had been tremendous interest to invest in the Northeast during the summit in the city. “A lot of people have come forward with MoUs and Letters of Intent, to be a part of this journey,” he said.

Mr. Scindia said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had transformed the Northeast as the first point of call of India. “Over the last ten years there has been tremendous efforts to develop our Shangrila with 5,500 km of National Highways, 50,000 km of roads under the PM Gram Sadak Yojana, and 19 airports in place of nine, 1909 km of rail lines constructed and 19 on-going railway projects worth ₹81,000 crore,” he said.

Mizoram Minister for Sports and Youth Services, LESDE, Lalnghinglova Hmar in his special address said he was honoured to represent his State.

Tamil Nadu has around 600 Mizos and most of them are in hospitality sector. With a population of 11 lakh, our State has made strides in several sectors, he says. Noting that that the potential area for horticulture in Mizoram was 55%, where grape, papaya, Mizo Chillies and Mizo Turmeric could be grown, he invited entrepreneurs to be part of the development of horticulture and food processing industry in the State.

Co-chairman of FICCI Tamil Nadu State Council Bhupesh Nagarajan and Northeastern Council Sherry Lalthangzo spoke.
