Virat Kohli was rested for the first ODI against England in Nagpur on Thursday after suffering from a sore knee. The Indian legend recently played for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy against the Railways, but he was left out of India's playing XI for the ODI series opener. Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed during toss that Kohli unfortunately won't be playing in the first ODI with what he described as a knee issue. He stated that Virat experienced some pain in his knee a day before the match thus he won't be risked. BCCI also offered an update on Kohli's absence on social media. "Virat Kohli was unavailable for selection for the 1st ODI due to a sore right knee," read the update from BCCI. Aakash Chopra hopes Virat Kohli will be ready for 2nd ODI Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra hoped that the Indian cricketer would be fit for the second ODI in Cuttack since India have only two games remaining before the Champions Trophy gets underway on 19 Februrary. "Neck in January. Knee in February. Not often you see Kohli missing any competitive cricket because of fitness issues. But here we are. Hopefully, he’ll be fit for Cuttack," wrote Chopra on X. For the unversed, Kohli had missed the Delhi vs Saurashtra Ranji Trophy fixture with a neck sprain, however, he did play in the subsequent match against Railways but was able to score only 6 runs. During the Australia Tour, Virat was dismissed 8 times outside the off stump, meaning he will have only two games to prepare for the Champions Trophy.
