Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky proposed a three-way summit with the U.S. and Russia to resolve the war, but both Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump appeared to dismiss the idea. The Kremlin refused talks without prior intergovernmental negotiations and still does not recognize Zelensky as a legitimate leader. Trump echoed this disinterest, criticizing both Zelensky and Putin for not securing peace earlier, adding,“ This isn’t my war. This is Biden’s war, Zelenskyy’s war, and Putin’s war.” Despite previously calling Putin “absolutely crazy” over recent missile strikes, Trump said he held back new sanctions to avoid derailing potential peace talks.
