The Election Commission ordered a repoll across 15 polling booths in two Assembly constituencies of West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district, with officials citing reports of electoral malpractices during the earlier round of voting. Polling resumed Saturday under heightened security, PTI reported.
Why did Election commision order for Repolling?
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered repolling at 15 booths in South 24 Parganas’ constituencies of Magrahat-Paschim and Diamond Harbour on Saturday. The decision was taken on the basis of reports submitted by presiding officers.
What did exit Polls predict?
Most exit polls on Wednesday predicted a tight contest in West Bengal with the BJP having a clear edge over the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), a decisive lead for the ruling BJP in Assam, and a change of guard in Kerala with the Congress-led UDF projected to make a comeback.

Assembly Elections 2026 Results Live Updates: BJP candidate Shankar Ghosh on SC order for Bengal counting of votes
As Supreme Court rejects TMC’s plea challenging appointment of Central employees as counting personnel, BJP’s Siliguri seat candidate Shankar Ghosh says, “TMC have tried multiple times to obtain orders from the High Court or the Supreme Court to enforce their rules and regulations during the election and now during the counting process. The Election Commission has ensured that both the polling and counting are conducted without any violence or disruption. This is the first time we are witnessing such a peaceful election in West Bengal, without bloodshed or terror as seen in previous years. Now, the state government and the ruling party appear to be concerned about retaining power and are attempting to disrupt the counting process. However, the Supreme Court has understood the situation and has dismissed objections against the Election Commission’s orders. The ECI is doing commendable work to ensure that both polling and counting are conducted smoothly and conclude without any issues.”

Assembly Elections 2026 Results Live Updates: BJP, TMC hail SC directions on counting of votes for West Bengal polls
The BJP and TMC on Saturday both hailed the SC directions on the Election Commission’s circular over the deployment of central government personnel for vote counting in West Bengal.
The apex court on Saturday said no further order was necessary on the TMC’s plea challenging the Calcutta High Court’s dismissal of its petition against the April 13 circular.
In a social media post, BJP leader Amit Malviya said, “In yet another legal setback, the Supreme Court has refused to intervene. The Trinamool Congress had approached the court challenging the exclusion of state government employees from vote-counting supervisor duties, and had sought an urgent hearing.” “The refusal to entertain this plea underscores a clear message — attempts to influence or cast doubt over the integrity of the counting process will not find easy validation. Another day, another judicial rebuff for Mamata Banerjee,” he added. — PTI
