Japan to get first woman PM: Sanae Takaichi elected LDP leader; known for hard-line China stance

Sanae Takaichi was elected leader of Japan’s ruling Liberal Democratic Party. She is now the most likely candidate to become Japan’s first female prime minister. Takaichi defeated Shinjiro Koizumi in a runoff vote. She replaces Shigeru Ishiba. Takaichi served under Shinzo Abe. She shares his nationalist views and seeks military modernisation.
