In a second increase in less than a week, the prices of petroL and diesel were hiked by 90 paise per litre on Tuesday.
Fuel prices remained the cheapest in Delhi. Petrol price in Delhi now stands at Rs 98.64 per litre, up from Rs 97.77 per litre. Diesel now costs Rs 91.58 a litre against a previous price of Rs 90.67, reported PTI.
Among major cities, Kolkata recorded the highest petrol price at Rs 109.70 per litre, and Chennai reported the highest diesel price at Rs 96.11 per litre.

City

Diesel Price

Delhi
98.64 (+0.87)
91.58 (+0.91)

Kolkata
109.70 (+0.96)
96.07 (+0.94)

Mumbai

94.08 (+0.94)

Chennai

96.11 (+0.86)

The prices were hiked by Rs 3 a litre on Friday.
The increase provided some relief to public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs), reducing their combined daily losses on sales of the two automobile fuels and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by a fourth, or about Rs 250 crore, a senior Petroleum Ministry official said Monday.

The three OMCs—Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum—are currently incurring losses of about Rs 750 crore a day by selling petrol, diesel, and LPG below market rates, according to Petroleum Ministry Joint Secretary Sujata Sharma. She did not comment on whether more fuel price hikes are in the pipeline in the coming days. Sharma said that the loss figures don’t include the OMCs’ under-recovery on jet fuel sales for domestic flights.
